Baseball kicks off season tomorrow!

The Alvin Community College Baseball team is looking to go further as they lace up for the 2016 spring season in January.

The team is team is coming off a 41-15 record in 2015 that ended with a strong showing in the NJCAA Region 14 tournament.

ACC posted back-to-back 40-win seasons in 2014-15 and look to improve on that this season, Head Coach Jason Schreiber said.

“I think we will do very well, we have quite a few guys returning from last year,” he said. “We’re continuing what we’ve been doing for many years now.”

This will be the first season with Schreiber at the helm. He has six returning players and four of his players have signed letters of intent to continue their careers with NCAA programs.

“We’re very excited to get going and having a successful season,” Schreiber said.

While the team will have some experienced players, there will be some new faces on the field, he said.

“We’ll be strong offensively,” Schreiber said. “There will be some new players up the middle but they are talented but there will also be a learning curve too. On the mound we are experienced but we have some holes that we will need to fill.”

While the team will have an experienced lineup, they will face some stiff competition throughout the season, Athletics Director Bill Lewis said.

“I expect this year’s region to be as tough as ever,” There are so many quality players and coaches in this area and we see that reflected in a really competitive league. Coach Schreiber and his staff have had a productive fall and I know he’s anxious to get going.”

The Baseball team will take to the field for the first time on January 30 against Temple College at 12 p.m. in Phillips Field.
